(Not) The Ox or Someone for Governor

(Not) The Ox or Someone for Governor
by Richard Oxman

When I was a kid they called me Ox. I’m still a kid.

And like my best little friend used to say, wise beyond his years, “If you say you can, it’s true. If you say you can’t, it’s true.”

Well, I’m going to be the next Governor of California. Me or someone equally qualified*. I’m certainly not attached to the idea, I just want to finally make a huge difference. Sooner rather than… too late.

*Meaning, for one, not a gangster, not into the office for self-serving purposes. You would be hard put to show that any fairly educated, honest, independent soul (on your block) couldn’t do a better job — by far — than any politician who has ever occupied The Main Seat in Sacramento.

It will NOT be necessary for me (or someone**) to “compromise” with run of the mill opposition (primarily) because of the means*** I plan to embrace for getting me or some other sweet non-politician into office.

**I’d much prefer to find a woman to run instead of me. For a number of reasons. And if we do, I pray that she’ll be able to sing. Maybe even be able to dance well. Use your imagination on this. Visualize the right woman stepping up to the mike, and belting out something beautiful in lyrics before launching into the Lesson of the Day.

***No campaigning, no dependence upon mainstream media, no party affiliation, no budget. A write-in candidate. Out of left-field. Reinvigorating, motivating shock.

Yeah. There would be “lessons” provided — something of the sort — each day. Information and encouragement offered up… to help one and all to self-educate… and, then, move into high gear… to get something done in solidarity.

Not coming out of press conferences or interviews and such. Rather, via the Guv’s own daily (alternative news) show. Or some variation thereof.

I fancy that whoever is Governor will benefit from having about ten or so intimate advisers****. Experienced, passionate citizens in various fields who have a track record of NOT putting career above principle. Who understand what it is to be without. Who acknowledge the urgency enveloping many crucial issues. With a creative, compassionate imagination. People who are on fire. Real people. No Bull People. Like The Ox.

****In fact, the Guv can simply be a figurehead. The Guv and the advisers can rotate, unofficially, as figurehead, and jam together on all major decisions. Ah, I almost forgot one of the most important aspects of the administration! To wit, all discussions — with anyone, among any important players in or out of office — will be televised for all to see and hear. For all to judge. In fact, there’s no reason why the Guv and others can’t be recorded throughout each day. A legit effort at providing transparency*****.

*****Imagine, if you will, being able to be privy to “the talks” about whether or not to close Guantanamo. Hey, the vast majority of people know in their heart of hearts that the vast majority of what is labeled as classified (or delicate) DOES NOT deserve such categorization. I say we should let just about everything be witnessed as informal debate… to be judged by us******.

******What politician would guarantee you real access to the office? You’ll be encouraged to contact the Guv and the advisers… and when you do you’ll be able to communicate with a real person, and NEVER have to put up with generic responses, form letters and the like. 24×7. In the middle of the night, if you must.

Yes, the Devil is in the details. God is too, for that matter. But first let’s get with the spirit of all this.

When I was ten-years-old I met Edna St. Vincent Millay… just before she died. She spoke the following lines to me from her poem Renascence (written when she was about 19):

“The world stands out on either side.
No wider than the heart is wide;
Above the world is spread the sky, –
No higher than the soul is high.
The heart can move the sea and land
Farther away on either hand;
The soul can split the sky in two,
And let the fact of God shine through.”

I intend to let the face of God shine through the State of California… and beyond.

Blessings in solidarity,
Richard Oxman
P.S. If you give me your contact info we can firm up exactly who is going to run for the office and serve by September 21, 2009, my birthday. Then we can spread the word respecting what name to write in on election day. Keep it simple. See http://oxtogrind.org/archive/315, and contact me at headburg@yahoo.com. Oh yes, one of the things I’ll be able to do if I’m Guv is to change the status of the thirteen- and fourteen- year-old prisoners who are currently serving life sentences without parole for nonviolent crimes. I remember what it was like to be a kid. More upon request, of course. In some quarters, an “O” and an “X” together mean hug and kiss, yes?
