Open Letter to Jeff and Jackie and the Route 1 Crew

Open Letter to Jeff and Jackie and the Route 1 Crew
by Richard Martin Oxman

On the way home from today’s Farmers Market at Cabrillo College, my wife Sylvie mentioned in passing that she had talked to you, Jackie, about the growing amount of plastic in our oceans. From what she said, I gathered that you both had shrugged your shoulders about the tragic mess, resigned to not being able to do anything about it all… beyond not — individually — using more plastic bags than necessary. That sort of thing. Small private efforts here and there… so as to not contribute to abominations like the Eastern Garbage Patch (just one of several monstrosities in the Pacific) …which now covers an area the size of Africa!

I shot back to the Farmers Market to talk to you, Jackie, once I dropped off my family at home… to learn that you weren’t quite as resigned as I had thought. That was good news to me. Very good news. For I have a plan for dealing with our unnecessary waste in the oceans… and elsewhere. Something that I know fits right in with the philosophy and practices of everyone connected with Route 1 Farms.

In short, people on my end are involved in paving the way for putting a (figurehead) non-politician in the Sacred Seat in Sacramento (the Governor’s office)… along with about a dozen or so experts in various fields as per http://oxtogrind.org/archive/331. These people would have as a top priority helping the public to self-educate regarding what we leave behind AND all matters respecting things organic. To say nothing about the glorious fact that our figurehead could legally work wonders overnight, unilaterally. A glance at the two links which follow #55 (in the article link above) might help provide a context.

Since no candidate from any major party is likely to make sufficient inroads as per Route 1 Farms’ agenda, and since no candidate representing any of the permanently marginalized “other parties” can help in this regard… I submit that it would be worth the heartbeats to be supportive of whoever we — together — choose to run as an unaffiliated write-in candidate for 2010 as per http://oxtogrind.org/archive/331.

Ideally, I’d like to speak in person with you –Jeff and Jackie… and any other Route 1 members who are interested… to elaborate on the above, and to lead an obligatory Q&A. Actually, anyone could join in.

Keep in mind, if you will, that I’m talking about putting someone in office who would do more than give token lip service to your life’s cause, your vision. Someone (with about a dozen other souls) who could — as members of an unprecedented coalition* in office — address issues organic… forcefully, creatively, repeatedly.

*Very open to your recommendations.

Changing the world by having faith in our collective imagination, instead of allowing that Eastern Garbage Patch to grow bigger, what it represents at base turning into a cancer that plagues all other realms on earth, including the best-laid, best-intentioned plans of organic farmers.

Blessings in solidarity,
Richard Oxman of headburg@yahoo.com
P.S. Forgive the lack of editing of the above. I wanted to rush this out to you. I will work on it a bit, touching it up perhaps over the next few days, but I’d like to hear from someone in your quarter… at the earliest possible convenience. For the moment, no need to be concerned with the means, how this Don Quixote dream can be realized. Though unprecedented, it is very doable.
