Dick Gregory and the Word of God

Dick Gregory and the Word of God
by The Ox (Richard Martin Oxman)

When I was just a kid, L. Russell Brown* and I secured a recording contract with Fury Records in Harlem with (that thieving) Bobby Robinson and “Fats”… who set up our first session at Beltone Studios in The City in the late fifties. It was quite the prestigious environment for two nobodies from Newark, New Jersey; Bill Doggett, one of our heroes had recorded there.

*He was simply Larry then.

Well, let me jump to the point here. King Curtis, the incomparable saxophonist who did those great riffs on the Coasters’ hits, was at our one and only session… and he offered to play. We wouldn’t let him. Why? I mean, WHY ON EARTH NOT? Guitars were just hitting the scene big time. We wanted a lead guitar to take over when we weren’t singing, not a sax. [Pause.] I know. I know.

Now… as we get ready to take over the State of California with an unprecedented session… I’m not going to make any more mistakes like that. Famous last words, yes, but I’m going to make sure that Dick Gregory plays his riff from the very start of our administration. God willing.

When I wrote “The Governor of California as God” (http://oxtogrind.org/archive/385), I forgot to include Dick Gregory in the first seven days of our Creation.

Well, while I’m waiting to hear back from him… let’s imagine that he moves to California in time.

If you’ve glanced at what I delineated for our first week in office, let’s return to the fantasy with Dick at the helm. And keep in mind, if you will, that Gregory has an almost infinite bag of justifiably angry tricks to lay out for the public’s self-education, motivation up the kazoo… for the benefit of one and all. What’s below is just… what came easy for me at the moment. The sequence of blah blah is nowhere near as important as the passion, the spot-on marginalized truth.

Day One: The Guv’s Outlet features Dick on KFC as per http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3274127447556038091#docid=-77 31685345817133641 in the afternoon, followed by him providing his own narration for http://www.mercyforanimals.org/hatchery/.

Day Two: Something along the lines of http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3274127447556038091#docid=-27 56292855487666232, with Guv Dick, once again on his own personal outlet — multiple millions eagerly tuning in worldwide — challenging citizens ‘cross the board respecting their complicity in this and that.

Day Three: With the fire of http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3274127447556038091#docid=617 3109069232245693, The Brother in Office explains on his outlet HOW everyone is going to contribute to

a. Making sure the Death Penalty is permanently abolished in California… and elsewhere.

b. Helping the thousands of prisoners who will be released the following week.

c. Turning the energy which goes into gang violence and corporate crime into productive work for the betterment of society.

d. Closing sweatshops statewide virtually overnight.

e. Eliminating vigilantism on our border with Mexico.

f. Growing organic food in urban areas.

g. Undermining environmental racism.

Day Four: The six segments above, and four others (which discretion demands not be revealed ahead of time) play again on the Guv’s outlet. Very late at night, in a highly publicized live segment, Governor Dick Gregory and the other eleven members of our gubernatorial coalition meet with California’s corporate leaders — in a session that’s transmitted live for public consumption — for the purpose of discussing HOW and WHY the state intends to push for the top 2% of the nation to share a portion of their “financial wealth” as per http://oxtogrind.org/archive/388.

Day Five: Gov. D. Gregory leads the state in its celebration of SAM COOKE DAY. And in honor of his Mississippi roots our entire gubernatorial coalition addresses abominations like what’s touched upon in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV64W830Bjg… showing the various ways in which peonage rears its ugly head in the Golden State.

Day Six: One of the other members of our gubernatorial coalition discusses the thrust behind http://www.counterpunch.org/ginsburg09112009.html (”The Patient as Profit Center”) and http://www.zmag.org/znet/viewArticle/22585 (”One Hundred Holocausts”) on live television in the morning …while DG and other coalition members answer phones during our weekly call-in sessions… in which one and all can ask about this and that. And get — with everyone else tuning in — direct replies from a human being instead of generic form responses.

Day Seven: On live (alternative) television our Guv and Lt. Guv (1) meet with a great number of world leaders… as THE FIRST SUMMIT OF THE AMERICAS takes place… with the same theme as what The Oxmans used for their One Dance: The People’s Summit http://www.counterpunch.org/mickey02102004.html, “O Bailan Todos O No Baila Nadie” (”Either Everyone Dances Or No One Dances”).

I’ve been dying to give you the punch line to this article, as I’ve been writing it.

Dick doesn’t have to relocate to California to take part in the above. And neither do you.

(1) The ten other members of the gubernatorial coalition will NOT be at the hemispheric session… so that we have some of our people in reserve in case… something unexpected happens.

Blessings in solidarity,
Ricardo Bueyhombre (The Ox)
