Simon Sedillo and the Brown Berets of Watsonville

Simon Sedillo and the Brown Berets of Watsonville
by Oxz (Ricardo Bueyhombre, aka Richard Martin Oxman http://oxtogrind.org/archive/378)

Forgive the omission of accents, please. That’s to underscore my respect.

In the last 24 hours, I’ve become a little familiar with http://brownberets.info/ and http://elenemigocomun.net/background. I think I died and went to ACTIVIST HEAVEN.

Below is a missive I just dashed off, using the format Sedillo’s site provides. I’m waiting for a response as I write this. I pray that communications won’t proceed at the arthritic snail’s pace so common among left-oriented groups.

“I want to connect immediately with Simon Sedillo and/or ANYONE connected with his work and/or ANYONE connected with the BROWN BERETS OF WATSONVILLE. Gustavo Esteva of Mexico has given his imprimatur for our TOSCA (Taking Over the State of California)… along with many other high profile figures worldwide as per http://oxtogrind.org/archive/364. PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP. Ricardo 831-688-8038 in Aptos, CA. I am conducting an interview with Barbara Ehrenreich on Nov. 6th, and I want to see if I can get in a plug for your work… prior to then. Also, I want very much to connect with someone before the UCSC and Cabrillo events take place.”

Prior to that, I had fired off — upon rising this A.M. — the following to BBofW:

“We absolutely discourage our members from enlisting in the U.S. military. This institution has been used as a tool by the Power Elite for capital gain around the world. We believe youth should pursue the path of EDUCATION and LIBERATION, not destruction.”

Hi, Riva and all Brown Berets Members of Watsonville:

I trust that you received my emails yesterday. I’m very much looking forward to contact with members of your organization.

I excerpted the goal from your Code of Conduct list because I it contains a point which should be spread throughout the entire country. It centers on an issue which is very dear to my heart. A matter of immense importance. For what it’s worth, I wanted you to know that I have hundreds of books, DVDs, etc. which I might be able to donate to Brown Berets of Watsonville. Do you have space for any mateials?

I have been a worldwide educator (for four decades)… and — as you can tell from my previous emails — very much involved in activism locally and abroad today. Please have someone contact me at your earliest convenience. You’re having a meeting on Thursday, yes?

Blessings in solidarity,
Richard

I think that was my third or fourth email to the group within the last 24 hours or so. [Maybe I better be careful. A friend told me not too long ago that enthusiasm is not in. I'm terrible on that count, like a dog in heat.]

Oh yeah, while writing this I managed to respond to the Publicity Director for Henry Holt publications, a person who’s been serving to set up my upcoming “interview” with Barbara Ehrenreich. I think it’s appropriate to include that here at this juncture:

Hi, Nicole.

Thanks.

In addition to looking forward to Barbara’s responses to the ten questions which were forwarded to her, I’d very much like to know what she thinks of http://oxtogrind.org/archive/420. This is of immense importance to many common, suffering working people (among others)… like the ones she spotlights in both Nickel and Dimed AND Bright-Sided. For people on my end are planning to “take over” the State of California (as per the links provided for TOSCA) — legally and nonviolently — and the vast majority of people in our movement are very interested in having Barbara’s input, etc.

A connection with Barbara over TOSCA should serve the interests of Henry Holt publications and Barbara’s personal agenda (and that of Dr. Coyne and BCAction) — as I read it — infinitely better than, say, arranging for just another debate or talk.

A five-minute conversation AT ANY HOUR would be my preference. 831-688-8038. However, I certainly would welcome any response from Barbara on TOSCA… in any form.

Blessings in solidarity,
Richard
P.S. The upcoming meetings as per http://brownberets.info/468 beg for a response sooner rather than later. For I could make great hay of anything positive Barbara might have to say in front of the people who will be gathering together in a few days.

Am I going to be granted that FIVE MINUTES? Somehow, when I decided to submit questions for the famous and influential Barbara Ehrenreich to answer instead of conducting a live telephone interview (to avoid the time-consuming effort entailed in transcribing talk on tape)… I, apparently, lost the 9 A.M. slot on November 6th which had been set aside for me. Wow. That’s a pretty busy gal.

Seriously, since I’ve offered to receive a call from her “at any hour” for the purpose of touching base over a potentially earth-shaking effort (loaded with values she’s been pushing for decades), you’d think it would be a slam dunk for her to pick up the phone.

We’ll see. Within the last two weeks or so, I’ve had heartbreaking non-contact (after having made “contact”) with the likes of Dahr Jamail, Ann Wright, Gaza Freedom March people, et al. Everyone is soooooooooooooo busy in their little corners. Busy with what? The book, the march, the talk. Everything, it seems, but taking over. [Pause.] There comes a time when the fruit of seeds planted must be harvested.

I can do without the additional contact with the well-known authors and high profile activists at this point. I cannot do without dialogue with Simon and the Brown Berets of Watsonville though. Like… yesterday.

As far as I’m concerned, the fate of the planet rests on our connecting. And short of that presumptuous stance, I’m very clear that I can contribute enormously to the welfare of residents in Watsonville.

Blessings in solidarity,

http://oxtogrind.org/archive/311 will show what can be done immediately; Brown Berets, Simon and everyone connected to the Latino community might want to make a special note of how gubernatorial powers can impact — unilaterally — on the Prison Industrial Complex. For starters.
