Unprecedented Urgent Action Courtesy of TOSCA
The blah blah below is from “Stopping New Radioactive Bomb Blasts” which appeared in Citizen’s Watch, August 2007. Media Democracy in Action acknowledged the Loulena Miles piece in their Censored 2009 edition of stories not covered by mainstream media outlets. Loulena is an Environmental Lawyer who I’m waiting to hear back from… respecting a request for an update on what’s below. However, I am posting the report here as an example of an abomination which OUR GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA (the TOSCA twelve citizens) could deal with immediately and satisfactorily… unilaterally… as an influential member of The Regents. Also, the Guv’s instructions to concerned citizens on how to go about shutting down such activity could and would be applied elsewhere in the state… and the nation. And the unprecedented action would be effective. It is only one example. As I write, I don’t happen to know whether or not LLL pulled off their desired game plan. But that’s both the point and beside the point. All kinds of stuff like this IS going on on an ongoing basis, and we can put an end to it. We, obviously, must do so. I’m hoping that the fact that such horror was even proposed in such a highly populated area will inspire huge movement in solidarity along the lines of TOSCA, or something of the sort.
“Lawrence Livermore Lab, run by the University of California–Berkeley, proposes conducting bigger, open-air bomb blasts at the lab’s Site 300, a high-explosives testing range near Tracy, California. Livermore Lab is proposing to raise the annual limit for high explosives detonated at Site 300 by 800 percent, from 1,000 to 8,000 pounds. And the daily limit will rise by 350 percent, from 100 to 350 pounds. According to the Lab, these blasts will be so powerful they will blow the walls and roof out of Site 300’s Contained Firing Facility — hence the plan to detonate them in the open. What makes these bomb tests so terribly dangerous are the toxic and radioactive materials they contain. According to the permit application, the test explosions will contain up to 5,000 pounds of deadly depleted uranium (uranium-238). This nuclear test expansion greatly increases the risk of danger to Northern California residents, as tests will be conducted without safeguards to contain the radioactive material.
