The Obsolete Schoolhouse
The Obsolete Schoolhouse [UNEDITED]

The house is on fire once again, and the arsonist is hiding.
Yes, it’ll take time to rebuild the dwelling, and replace the furniture. Some things DO take time, require patience and perseverance. But… it doesn’t take time — it MUST NOT — to put the fire out, to put it out immediately, soon enough to save the kids and little kitties trapped inside.
I’m watching well-intentioned, well-educated, experienced activists passing buckets to the front steps of the house, and throwing water on the flames. Very well-organized they are. Hmmm. [Pause.] But… what’s that? I see a hose curled (fetal-like) on the ground, not being used. All hooked up like an umbilical cord, ready to go.
I jump to the head of the orderly line, and scream about our having a hose we can use. They all look at me as if I want to take over their efforts, as if I want to act as THE BOSS OF THEM! Oooooo.
Well, that kind of thing is not… demanding that I be their leader. It has nothing whatsoever to do with leadership. It only has to do with compassionate, practical application of ________________. [You fill in the blank.]
Maybe the hose has holes. Perhaps that’s why it’s not being used. Could be that the bucket contingent knows something that the screamer doesn’t have a clue about. Well, we all know what learning about that would lead to. Or do we? If it’s a matter of patching up a crack quickly to make the hose functional perhaps, well…. There are a lot of possibilities, but observation is essential. From all angles.
Now… about that arsonist who keeps burning down our structures and endangering our cuddly kids and cute kitties.
I say we get together and find out where he’s/she’s being educated, and, then, consider killing — undermining, getting rid of — that institution.
No need to waste heartbeats pontificating about how the blue, yellow and red schoolhouses of history have all produced the same results as this… white schoolhouse… that’s currently causing trouble. This is not a question of human nature. Rather, it is a concern of humanity.
For it might be that the black one in the back of Zack’s mind or that green version which Sting alludes to once in awhile (in unguarded moments) might produce better results. [Pause.] Something more humane.
