“Law professor Bill Monning of the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California said that, ‘We would scream bloody murder if any outside force were interfering in our internal political system.’ He is, of course, correct: such actions would never be tolerated for a moment. But the imperial mentality allows them to proceed, even with praise, when Washington is the agent.” — Noam Chomsky
Note: Forgive me for my playfulness here. As serious as the revolutionary element is in all I do, I am constitutionally incapable of presenting my radical offerings/thinking in a straight forward manner exclusively. It seems that I am doomed to enjoy my expression in the midst of addressing abominations, gambling with my own life.
Admittedly, the acronym (VyVyAN) is forced. Volunteers and Venezuela and ALBA Network is awkward by any standards (with its mix of languages), and Venezuela — in terms of my intention with the organization — does not warrant more of a spotlight than other members of ALBA, say Bolivia or Brazil.
But that shouldn’t be important here. I used Vyvyan, the name of Oscar Wilde’s most tortured son*, as a point of departure for this organization — concerned with life and death matters, the integrity of Latin American sovreignty, indeed global survival — because I have lots of Abbie Hoffman in me, and a lifetime of heartbeats invested in Dramatic Art. Meaning, as serious as the whole shebang is… I intend to have loads of heartfelt fun in the process of trying to make a difference.
*This piece is dedicated to Wilde’s The Soul of Man Under Socialism, a work that influenced me greatly in my formative years. Oscar’s younger boy, for me, embodies thoughts and qualities which I will be happy to discuss upon request.
In short, I want to meet with Chavez, Lula and/or Morales et al. For at the risk of sounding totally presumptuous, I am convinced that I can serve as an invaluable asset for their collective purposes. I have been trying to get them on board with TOSCA, but — thus far — none of my contacts have been able to connect me.
No problema, as they say. I’ll plug away (with you?), and trust that I’ll make a breakthrough. Achieving historic strides, inspiring others in the process.
WHAT I HAVE TO OFFER AT THE MOMENT (TO BE TWEAKED AS PER FEEDBACK):
1. I can travel to South America immediately at my own expense… even though I have resources for doing so, to say the least. To volunteer working heartbeats 24×7 in Latin America. As per the needs of ALBA and the needs of the individual countries.
2. I can bring great numbers — relative to the number of potential volunteers in the entire U.S. — with me. Or… I can secure such service on an ongoing basis on behalf of the people of Latin America.
3. Once we are firmly ensconced in Latin America in a working environment, we can — I’ll speak for myself for the moment — I can set up in very humble circumstances, teaching and organizing 24×7. I have a prestigious (estimado?) background in ESL… and much else to offer. Including a guarantee to have many books, films and other materials shipped for local use on an ongoing basis.
4. From a distance, I can do some unprecedented work, organizing people in the U.S. — with or without reference to TOSCA — on behalf of ALBA. To give one example, the writers, lecturers et al. alluded to in http://oxtogrind.org/archive/438 can be corralled into new kinds of activities, direct action of a sort which they — for the most part — ignore at our collective peril. They and others could be encouraged to embrace a single activist move in solidarity designed to counteract the issues embodied in Coups, UNASUR, & The U.S. To help foreign influence be a greater factor in more aspects of the internal workings of the U.S. This is necessary.
5. With the above, there is the added potential to lay the groundwork for making it more likely that the U.S. will, among other things, honor international law. Details respecting this and much else are not suited for delineation here.

UPDATE as of 2/5/10: If you google Justin Podur and Manuel Rozental, you’ll find some info about two highly reputable, reliable souls… who risk their lives… whose credentials are the reason I contacted them about the above…. Unlike Eva Golinger and her hardworking, well-intentioned, very experienced colleagues at venezuelanalysis (who I also contacted about the same), Justin and Manuel actually got back to me, showing interest in what I wanted of them. [Pause.] Once I told them, I never heard from them again. I hope that the thrust of what I’m suggesting here is off, that I’ll suddenly be pleasantly surprised with a missive from one of them. That said, similar experiences in other quarters tells me that I’m not getting something. That that’s not about to happen.
