The Iconoclastic Party
Note: Virtually everything on this archived site is dated. Only articles recommended should be read. The “proposal” hinted at here requires no money and virtually no time. It should not be viewed as something that would deplete energy for your priorities. For me, institutional social change and pure fun are of paramount importance. For others, they can come on board and be primarily motivated by personal gain of some sort. There’s plenty of that to be had, and I’d be honored to help on that count enormously respecting anyone who I’ve invited to read this blah blah. [Is that crystal clear?]
The Iconoclastic Party (First Draft)
Dedicated to the imaginative powers of Michael Duarte and Edward Singletary
by The Ox and O.W.
“One who attacks and seeks to overthrow traditional or popular ideas or institutions.”
Remember, there’s nothing keeping an iconoclast from having a game plan, ideas for replacing what’s obsolete, boring and inhumane.
Anyone who thinks that things are basically okay, that our momentum is not absolutely frightening… well, they need not read on.
I can stand brute force (like what’s in The Hurt Locker) but brute reason (like what characterizes The Hurt Locker) is quite unbearable. There is something unfair about its use. It is like hitting below the intellect. Or, as is the case with so many celebrated (so-called) socially-conscious films, hitting below a decent level of compassion.
Our abominations abroad are only a segment of what I’m concerned with, albeit an important part. For one (obviously), hard-to-come-by $$$ for this sort of thing, keep funding from the arts, and prevent us from financially addressing domestic immiseration.
[Pause.]
Americans (U.S. citizens, or as I call them USers) are certainly great hero-worshippers, and they always take heroes from the criminal classes. That’s why politicians generally get so much mileage from their tenures.
USer society always forgives the criminal, it never forgives the lone dreamer. [Spare me the rare exceptions to the rule, please.]
So… I propose stealing the next gubernatorial election in California — somewhat along the lines touched upon in http://planetgreen.discovery.com/work-connect/pumping-green-iron-calif ornia.html — with enough dreamers on board… to make the powers that be and the USers of brute reason succumb to a fate better than death.
For living death is the scenario we’re slated to be enveloped by if we don’t proactively follow a new paradigm for change in solidarity.
Blessings in solidarity,

P.S. Please don’t let me lose you if you happened to like both The Hurt Locker and the Academy Award speeches associated with it. That stuff is beside the point.
